Amazing Grace By Mary Hoffman

Read Aloud Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman   This book was extermley cute and fun to listen too! Starting off by looking at the book as a whole the storyline, and what’s being represented in the story, it’s about a little African American girl who loves to act, love hearing/reading stories, and most importantly loves to combine the two by role playing different characters she hears or reads about in the stories. She’s doesn’t limit herself to role playing only female and/or black characters, but uses her imagination to act out characters that are males or have different ethnic backgrounds other than her own.  She’s has so much fun at home imagining herself as all kinds of characters in lots of different scenarios but she becomes discourage slightly when one of her male classmates tells her she cannot play the role of Peter Pan because she’s not a boy and another female class says she can’t be Peter Pan because she is black and Peter Pan is not black. Luckily, her grandma ...

Native Americans Today Lesson plan evaluation

Photo taken form the Read Write Think: Native Americans Today lesson by Debbie Reese    I chose to look at the lesson written by Debbie Reese titled Native Americans Today. This lesson's objectives are met by the material covered as well as what the students are asked to do.    I really like the way the lesson is set up kind of in a KWL idea. The first session has students learning the terms in a definitional way and then asks them to add on their own notions, ideas, and knowledge over the topic. I think getting student’s raw knowledge first is the best way to go especially when addressing history and other cultures because it can help teachers see what kind of biases are already in the classrooms so that any myths or misinformation that can be corrected. I think it also helps students see the misconceptions on their own especially when they are the ones who added the original information. By having the students find the information and learn about the informat...

Identity Picture book

I’ve chosen to look at the picture book, Alma and How she got her Name, by Juana Martinez-Neal. This book is a little personal to me because my name is something I did not like for a long time as well due to how hard it often is for others to say my last name correctly as well as when I first introduce myself people always only address me by the first part of my first name. With a name like Jessicakay I hated having to say it and being called on because I always follow up with people studdering and the confused look. The story book of Alma  tells the story of little girl who thinks her name is too long  but then learns the reasoning behind her name and the connections it has to her family. This book I feel allows for students to think about the value their name holds as well as the value of other’s names.  The learning idea of writing poems off of things that students have experienced in life, along with “ Where I’m From” and “ whats my name”, is a way to have stud...

Self Portait

Image
For my self-portrait I chose to make a collage of the things that make up the current version of me. I did not draw a face on mine because for a long time I have struggled with my own body image and so for me my self-portrait is reflected in a collage facets of my life that make me me including my family and faith which is super importation to me. I also included a waterfall because I love and value the land that has been untouched. I also included lots of preschool aged images because that is the age group I love to teach! My faith is a huge part of my life and story; it truly did save me when I went through high school  where I struggled with learning disabilities and social situations. I leaned into my family, faith, and the outdoors.

About me

Hello!!         My name is Jessicakay Byrnes and the handsome puppy in that photo is named Blu Bear. I am a 21-year-old TXST future educator in the making. I am on my senior year and currently taking some summer classes! I have made blogs before for classes but have never used Blogger before so super excited to learn and figure this road out! I love the outdoors, hiking, swimming and even working out outside. Recently I got an outdoor buddy, my puppy Blu. He is 7 months old blue lacy/massive mix. I call him a dumpster puppy because someone threw him in the dumpster when he was only 3 weeks old. He’s a healthy whopping 68 pounds and still growing now!! I did not always want to teach when I was younger in high school, I received my final concussion that left some brain damage from my horse-riding career that ended it. I looked for a new path and already loved working with children and had some past expiries with some bad teachers and som...
